Clean the House or Wreck this Journal?

Today starts another bookclub journey, Wreck This Journal, led by the incomparable Jamie Ridler.

I have a confession to make: I'm messy. There are dirty dishes in the sink and stains on my clothes. Currently, there's even a pile of junk in my driveway that needs to be carted away. And while I do try to keep some of my books pristine, especially graphic novels like Persepolis, by Marjane Satrapi and 365 Days, by Julie Doucet, books that I'm living with are usually lived in. So getting messy is not the challenge for me on this journey.

The challenge for me is wanting to keep the art that is created in the mess. I guess I will be able to keep the photographic record of it as we go along, but the object itself will most likely disappear in its destruction. Letting go has more than one meaning.

To leap right into that challenge, I'm following the first instruction and heading off to the post office to mail this book to me.

I'm looking forward to having fun on this adventure with this great creative & supportive community. Thank you again, Jamie.

Do you have any white shirts that you can actually wear? I don't:) The house is a mess, I'm a mess , yet I too will want to keep my messy journal. Looking forward to getting wrecked with you:)

Yay you for diving in to the mailing adventure! I'm so curious how it will come back to you, what the stamps will look like and how long it will take. The book is starting the adventure by going on an adventure of its own!

It's a no-brainer... the housework can wait! What a neat idea to do the mail thingy first! Looking forward to everyone's creative ideas.

Sparks! Sparks! I feel the sparks of great creations just around the corner!

You are brave! Will be great fun to see what it comes back like... And definitely, choose wrecking before cleaning the house, just if you ask me :)
Looking forward to wrecking with you this summer!

No one ever lies on their deathbed wishing they had spent more time doing housework... Enjoy the journey.

I was thinking about mailing mine early this week, too. I thought it might be easier to mail now in a semi-flat state, then later when it's in worse condition, but who knows? Glad you're part of this adventure!

No question-even if the world were coming to an end--housework can WAIT!

Oh yes, I love this post - I am glad there is another person who is already "messy" for me to pal around with. Wreck this journal, indeed why not, since I wreck most physical things I come in contact with anyways!

I like the other comment too, about white shirts. I have 2, saved only for special occasions, and one now has a stain anyways. Not gonna be too hard for us to rock the wrecking at least!

Might I suggest Wreck the Journal. Why waste the bloom of your life cleaning a toilet? Happy Wrecking!!! Glad you are having fun.

OMG, what a first page to leap into! Please post a picture of how it looks when it's returned.

And the whole thing about letting go of the art afterwards...oh yeah. Pictures (and videos) will not be the same...but who knows we may be in a different place by the end.

Wreck it girl!
