Good News and Bad News

Last night, just as I settled in to chat with some of my favorite virtual friends at the Big Blue Tavern,* I discovered I was banned. I'm sure it is a technical glitch, even though I was just about to post a comment teasing our host for putting up Erin McKeown and Common Rotation with Amy Ray on consecutive nights. But I didn't post it! I mean, heck, I hardly ever even swear. I've never been banned before, have you? This is what it looks like:

Banned by webmaster. Your comments will not be added

After announcing the news to my facebook friends and killing a few brain cells over at TextsFromLastNight [full disclosure: I don't even have a cell phone!], I went to bed and listened to the rain.

It rained hard all night. In the morning, it was blustery and tropical.

I discovered I am still banned.

Today is supposed to be a record warm sunny day.

Peace.

Where is everyone commenting, if not here?

I sometimes think "the Host" pulls shit just to keep his tributaries on their toes.

I don't know how it was accomplished, because i have a continually changing IPA, but they kept me from signing in for over a year.

I suppose I could sign in now again, but fuckit...i can take a hint...

Ack! Sorry ... that happened to me last year. Got caught up in some weird IP sweep. Had to used a proxy to get in ... and then, as if by magic, everything was back to normal

Sigh, not banned, but a persona non gravatar. Wordpress claims my name, but doesn't. So I can't update my gravatar etc. I have no idea what email address I used.

Thanks for showing those upright amongst us who never see it what the mark of the condemned looks like.

Have you tried posting from some place outside of Boston?

Hang in there Ina! Smoke is championing your cause regularly, as are others in Atrios' comments.

This has happened to others before, although it's been awhile since I last saw it. Woody noted it upthread. The IP# (Internet Protocol number) that identifies your PC and your ISP (Internet Service Provider) is probably close to that being used by a troll (the Simels-obsessed one, perhaps?). These IP#'s shift around a little from session-to-session, but stay within a certain range for a given ISP. Your misfortune is to probably be in the same "IP neighborhood" as the critter than Atrios was trying to ban. That's my guess as to what happened, at least...

Oh the irony. You would think that some like you who has done 100 self portraits in as many days would never be mistakenly banned due to an improperly identified ISP number.

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt.

You share an ISP with a troll, most likely.

Don't know what to say, except that eventually Atrios's bannnings seem to wear off, or he cancels them, or something.

Good luck. Hope to see you soon.
